Fruit Logistica 2006 - BVEO: marketing concepts for the future

At around 1,300 square metres (2005: 1,100 m²) the largest display at FRUIT LOGISTICA is again that shared by the growers federation Bundesvereinigung der Erzeuger-organisationen Obst und Gemüse e.V. (BVEO), the marketing company representing German agriculture CMA Centrale Marketinggesellschaft der deutschen Agrarwirtschaft mbH, and a number of Germanys leading producers organisations and institutions.

The new exhibitors on the combined stand in Hall 2.1 are the cooperative Raiffeisen-Warengenossenschaft eG, Leese, and central market ELO Erzeugergromarkt Langfrden-Oldenburg eG. The General Manager of the BVEO, Karl Schmitz, draws attention to the changes in the international fruit and vegetable market in 2005.

The ongoing convergence in the retail food sector continues to make progress, making a continued concentration of the items on offer essential. At the same time suppliers are facing increasing demands for higher levels of services. For the growers businesses the long term need to ensure sales at reasonable marketing costs is acquiring ever greater importance. Schmitz states that the response by German growers organisations will continue to include mergers and marketing concepts designed to meet future requirements.

The General Manager reported that 51 growers organisations now belong to the BVEO. In 2005 the member companies attained a turnover of around 1.9 billion euros with their fresh produce, excluding items bought in, imports and other contributory factors such as flowers and articles of daily use.
