One more Leffe beer for the road

One of Belgium's favourite abbey beers is to extend its range with a new brother. Leffe 9° is to become the fifth in a series of beers that have seen a 130% growth in sales in Belgium over the last decade.

Until now, the Leffe range consisted of Leffe blond, Leffe brown, Leffe triple and Leffe Radieuse. Now there is to be a fifth variety to boost the ranks: Leffe 9.

Relax on a terrace with a good Belgian beer.

According to those clever people brewing the stuff in Leuven (Flemsih Brabant), Leffe 9 has a clear, deep golden colour with a rich and full taste and a fruity, spicy aroma.

The latest offering from the Leffe boys will be available in Belgian shops as from Monday and will be recognisable by its blue accented packaging.

InBev hopes to introduce the new beer in other countries in the future, but for the time being it is to remain exclusively for Belgian beer lovers (or those popping over to stock up).

Belgian beers

Specialist beers are currently big on the international market.

Abbey beers especially are experiencing a growing success along with strong blond beers and granny's favourite, Kriek (beer flavoured with cherries).

Abbey beers are far outperforming other types and Leffe is currently market leader.

With the potent 9 version, InBev intend to extend its growth further.
