Partner country Egypt with 28 exhibitors at the FRUIT LOGISTICA

Egyptian exhibitors have been attending the FRUIT LOGISTICA for the past seven years. Beginning with just five companies, they now comprise 28 of the leading fruit exporters and this year saw a high point with the choice of Egypt as partner country at the industrys leading meeting place.

These figures give an indication of the vital importance of agriculture to the Egyptian economy. It accounts for 18 per cent of the gross domestic product and employs 31 per cent of the entire workforce, and fruit and vegetables provide 17 per cent of all agricultural exports, with a value of 1.2 billion dollars.

The most important fruit items are strawberries, grapes and oranges, and the main vegetables consist of potatoes, artichokes and green beans. The countries of Europe continue to be Egypts most important trading partners. In order to be able to develop their share of this market growing numbers of exporters are relying on the traceability of produce and are signing up to international quality assurance systems as a means of bringing greater clarity to their production processes.
