Wheat production (excluding durum) is expected at 134.5 mln t, compared to 134.1 mln t in the March forecast and down from 139.9 mln t of last year. Record rainfall late last year had a major impact on winter cereal sowing (wheat/barley) in northwestern Europe (France, Germany, UK, Baltics, Poland), while Spain’s production will substantially increase vs 2023.
The EU-27+UK 2024 barley production is now forecast at 59.9 mln t, down from 61.2 mln t in the previous forecast but up from 54.4 mln t harvested in 2023. Denmark, Finland, and Spain will have better barley crops than in 2023.
The preliminary EU27+UK corn crop is now seen at 64.8 mln t, up from 64.3 mln t forecast in March and up from the 2023 harvest seen at 63.8 mln t.
The EU-27+UK rapeseed crop is forecast at 19.4 mln t (20.2 mln t in the previous forecast), down from last year’s 21.4 mln t.
