LEMKEN acquires weeding technology specialist Steketee

The German family business and specialist in agricultural engineering LEMKEN has acquired the Machinefabriek Steketee B.V. With this, LEMKEN has taken over all rights of Steketee regarding weed control technology, including the soil cultivation program of Rumptstad.

The ultramodern mechanical weed control machines with advanced camera techniques from the Netherlands, form an appropriate extension to the Crop Care product portfolio of LEMKEN. Klaas Veerman, director of Steketee, is very satisfied with the acquisition: "For me it is important that we get access to a large and well-established distribution network with this acquisition. This gives Steketee the opportunity to continue focusing on product development and innovative solutions. Moreover, the LEMKEN product and company philosophy convinced me that we share the same vision for the future of agricultural technology. I am therefore very happy that I can continue the developments within Steketee with LEMKEN. " LEMKEN CEO Anthony van der Ley also sees this as a very important step in the future of crop care: "The acceptance of chemical crop care agents is decreasing, both among farmers and within the broader society.

This creates a growing need for innovative alternatives that limit the use of chemical pesticides. LEMKEN is fully aware of this responsibility, and we intend to promote mechanical weed control by adding hoeing technology to our Crop Care product range.” LEMKEN wants to expand the production capacity of Steketee based on the current expertise and competence of the employees. With the foreseen increase in scale, LEMKEN will focus on further innovations in weed control techniques by supporting Steketee’s business operations in the area of product development, production and sales. The well-known company names Steketee and Rumptstad will continue to exist.

Together with Iljan Schouten, General Manager of the LEMKEN Business Unit Crop Care, Klaas Veerman will continue the operational management of Steketee.
