EU Budget: Copa and Cogeca welcome MEPs rejection of cuts in EU agriculture expenditure

Copa and Cogeca welcomed in Brussels today MEPs vote on the next Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) which calls for no reductions in farming spending.

Copa and Cogeca Secretary-General Pekka Pesonen said “It is good news that European Parliament approved the report on the next Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) which calls for a rise in Member States budget contribution. We support MEPs calls for new money to be found to finance both old and new priorities”.

“I am glad to see that they deplore cuts in the EU’s farm budget and cohesion policy and want more clarity and comparability on the Commission’s figures”, Pesonen added. “We need sufficient funding in order to enable the future CAP to fulfil its role in helping farmers to provide sustainable food supplies at affordable prices for consumers at the same time as keeping rural areas alive”, Pesonen insisted.
