EIB financing initiative for agriculture and bio-economy sectors welcome news


Copa and Cogeca wholeheartedly welcomed today a new financing initiative from the European Investment Bank (EIB) to inject close to 1 billion euros into the agriculture and bio-economy sectors.

Reacting to the initiative, Copa and Cogeca Secretary-General Pekka Pesonen said “The EU agriculture and forestry sectors actively contribute to the circular and bio-economy in the EU, through the sustainable production of renewable resources. Research, innovation, knowledge transfer and investments are vital to maximise the potential”. 
 
“This new initiative by the EIB to provide financing of 400 million euros for the agriculture and bio-economy sectors under the Juncker Plan’s European Fund for Strategic Investments is expected attract funds from agri-cooperatives and other private investors to reach a total of close to 1 billion euros which is welcome news and will help to achieve its potential. It will enhance the competitiveness of agri-cooperatives, growth and jobs in rural areas and ensure vibrant rural areas in the EU at the same time as having a positive environmental impact”, added Pesonen.
