Copa and Cogeca call for implementation of EU Omnibus Regulation by 1st January 2018

In order to cut down on red tape and to encourage uptake of insurance measures, Copa and Cogeca called today for implementation of the political agreement on the EU Omnibus Regulation by 1st January 2018.

Copa and Cogeca Secretary-General Pekka Pesonen said “The political agreement struck between European Parliament and the EU Council is a positive step. Rules for instance on direct payments under the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) and measures to help farmers better manage risk will be simplified. Farmers need rapid implementation of these measures before the start of the next period of aid applications under the CAP”.

“To be effective, the new rules need to be swiftly implemented by the deadline of January 1 2018. We consequently urge the EU Institutions to split the Omnibus Regulation and to proceed rapidly with the formal adoption of it and implement the agricultural part of the Regulation”, he concluded.
