Copa and Cogeca welcomed the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) opinion on the herbicide glyphosate
Copa and Cogeca Secretary-General Pekka Pesonen said "On the basis of the strong scientific evidence, vis a vis both the opinions of the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) and the European food Safety Authority (EFSA), we urge the EU to re-authorise this substance for use in crop production without further restrictions.

In addition, EU farmers hold a very high level of competence and training to safely apply Plant Protection Products (PPPS) and regular checks on spraying equipment”.
“Moreover, we believe that it is essential to build confidence in Europe’s food safety system by highlighting our high quality production methods and environmental protection standards that apply in the EU. Glyphosate is the most widely used herbicide in the EU, enabling us to produce safe, affordable, quality food in a cost-effective way. In addition, it is a key tool together with catch crops to prevent soil erosion and reduce greenhouse gas emissions”, Pesonen said.
