Aviko Potato provides detailed information on the development of the 2016 potato crop

Aviko Potato is responsible for the purchase, logistics and quality management of all potatoes for the Aviko Group factories.
This mainly concerns the raw material supply for the five factories in the Netherlands, but the company are also closely involved with the cultivation of potatoes for Aviko Group production locations in Germany, Belgium, Poland, Sweden and China.

Aviko Potato provides detailed information on the development of the potato crop
Acting on its vision ‘Creating value from potatoes’, the Aviko Group annually processes 1,700,000 tonnes of potatoes into fresh, frozen and dehydrated potato products.

This ranks Aviko as the fourth largest potato processor worldwide and the largest producer of chilled fries.

Yearly Aviko Potatoes follows the progress of the potato crop through regular sampling and the resulting data are shared publicly based on their commitment to transparency. PotatoPro took a closer look.

Aviko Potato started the sampling of its main varieties - Agria, Fontane, Innovator and Victoria - this year in week 30 (July 25, 2016). : Per field, 2 samples of 1m² (1,33 meter of potato ridge) are harvested every 2 weeks.

These samples are processed in the Aviko Potato quality lab and the results will be published each Friday.

The observed (gross) yields are compared with the multiannual average. The amount of crop cover (between 1 and 10) is also listed in order to estimate the senescence of the observed yield at the moment of sampling.

For each variety, the sampled fields have been chosen depending on the total volume that Aviko Potato has contracted in those regions. Preferably the samples are taken at the same farmers each year. This makes the comparison of the results between different years the most reliable.

The field samples are valuable for Aviko Potato as well as for the potato growers since they give a precise prediction of the yield.
