'Hollandse maatjesharing', one new Traditional Speciality Guaranteed product from the Netherlands

The Commission has today approved the addition of one new product from the Netherlands to the register of Traditional Speciality Guaranteed (TSGs).

'Hollandse maatjesharing/Hollandse Nieuwe' and the also registered German name for it, 'Holländischer Matjes', are young herrings which are both caught and sold in the period from 1 May to 31 August.

All processing, comprising gibbing, brining and ripening, is carried out in the traditional Dutch manner. This denomination will be added to the list of over 1,290 products already protected.
