Commission clears acquisition of Eaststarch by ADM

The European Commission has approved under the EU Merger Regulation the acquisition of sole control over Eaststarch C.V of the Netherlands by Archer Daniels Midland Company ("ADM") of the United States.

Eaststarch is currently jointly controlled by ADM and Tate & Lyle plc of the United Kingdom. ADM is a multinational processor of agricultural commodities including corn. ADM also manufactures related semi-finished products. Eaststarch produces and sells corn-based native and modified starches.

The Commission concluded that the proposed transaction would not raise competition concerns, because it would not alter the competitive situation in the market to a significant extent, since, before this transaction, ADM already controlled Eaststarch jointly with Tate & Lyle plc. The transaction was examined under the simplified merger review procedure.

More information is available on the Commission's competition website, in the public case register under the case number M.7661.
