Bocuse d’Or Winners at Café des Chefs in the Pavillon de la France

Since 1987, every two years, the world’s most talented chefs have gone head to head in an amicable culinary jousting match.

The Bocuse d’Or has unquestionably become the most prestigious cooking contest in the world, due to the high level of technical skills and the fact that it plays out in front of a very international audience. It is often nicknamed “the Olympic games of cooking” with more than 50 countries now taking part for 24 finalists. At each final, three contestants will mount the podium, and in 2000, the Bocuse d’Or Winners Association was created to bring them together.

To date, the association comprises 41 chefs from 12 nationalities.

In Milan, all the French chefs responded enthusiastically to Gl-events’ invitation and will be involved with the Café des Chefs in the Pavillon de la France.

Their mission: to show through their menus that French high gastronomy can meet the demands of a broad public. They will take turns in creating a menu, featuring regional products and dishes offered at affordable prices, while maintaining an excellent level of creativity and taste.

Their names:

  • François Adamski, Bocuse d’Or 2001
  • Yannick Alléno, Bocuse d’Argent 1999
  • Fabrice Desvignes, Bocuse d’Or 2007
  • Jacky Fréon, Bocuse d’or 1987, 1st Bocuse d’Or in history, who will be paying tribute to Italy, giving free rein to the young Italian chef Paolo Griffa
  • Régis Marcon, Bocuse d’Or 1995
  • Philippe Mille, Bocuse de Bronze 2009
  • Franck Putelat, Bocuse d’Argent 2003
  • Michel Roth, Bocuse d’Or 1991
  • Thibaut Ruggeri, Bocuse d’Or 2013
  • Serge Vieira, Bocuse d’Or 2005

Together, they form a team boasting no fewer than 16 Michelin stars and 5 Meilleurs Ouvriers de France!

But beyond the team’s legitimate pride, it is their mindset more than anything that should attract attention within the context of Expo Milan 2015.

Since summer 2013, the Bocuse d’Or Winners Association has been supporting food-related solidarity microcredit projects worldwide, through its commitment to the Babyloan organisation. To date, they have funded around twenty micro-entrepreneurs; farmers, fishers, restaurant owners... Through their presence at the Café des Chefs, they are also actively supporting the commitment made by Gl-events and therefore by the Pavillon de la France to reinvest 1% of sales to fund further projects.

The Café des Chefs at the Pavillon de la France is a smart synergy of the very best of French high gastronomy, an openness to the world and a social conscience.
