In an effort to fight a virus, researchers seek to find human antibodies that will battle the viruses. Until recently, the only way to do that was produce the antibodies from humans.
But SAb Biotherapeutics, based in Sioux Falls, S.D., says it has developed a method to produce human antibodies in cattle. It’s website says that three advantages cattle have include advanced technology in inserting and inactivating genes in cattle more than other species, the large volume of antibodies in cattle blood, and our already high knowledge base about them due to agriculture.
But while it might sound like a life-saving discovery to some, it’s a tragic overuse of science to others.
NBC broke the story and on the WRCB Channel 3 Facebook page, Chattanooga, Tenn., comments include:
“Good God! Some people will look at this with excitement. Any time our Government gives approval for cloned, genetically engineered cattle to produce something that will be injected in the public is a big NO from my point of view. Try to solve one problem & 10 more will follow.”
“Nothing good comes from genetically modified anything!”
“You know Monsanto... makers of Agent Orange, that killed our troops in Viet Nam after being sprayed with this stuff. WOW! they told our soldiers that it was safe! Many died from this stuff, two of whom were my friends. No I will never trust Monsanto on ANY level.... and NO I do not totally trust any Government that will permit this to happen.”
“My question is since Ebola can live in animals and humans. What are they going to do with all the by products from these animals? Their waste will infect the ground and surrounding which will make it spread. Get ready folks the good Lords is about ready to break the seals and pour out the vials!”
