The move comes after European Parliament gave its strong support to the new European Commission with 423 votes in favour, 209 against and 67 abstentions. The Juncker Commission can thus start its term of office on 1 November 2014 for a five year mandate.
Copa-Cogeca welcomes the appointment of new EU Agriculture Commission Mr Hogan (EPP) from Ireland who will take over from Commissioner Ciolos. Copa-Cogeca Pekka Pesonen said “I welcome many of the priorities outlined in his hearing, like producing in such a way which safeguards natural resources and meets rising demand. He also highlighted the need to screen the new CAP and see what can be simplified, without putting into question the effectiveness of the policy. It is crucial for us that the CAP be simplified. And we all look forward to working with Mr Hogan in the coming months to ensure we have a viable EU agriculture sector”.
