The 2014 edition of the EDA World Dairy Forum is taking place next Friday, 10 October 2014, in Stresa, Italy. This year’s edition will focus on ‘European Dairy in a Global context’; this topic will be debated in three sessions and from three different perspectives.
The first session will focus on the needs and expectations of the European ‘dairy’ consumer and how the dairy sector can satisfy these, both in a European, and a more global perspective. In this session Mr Enrico Krien from The Nielsen Company will present an analysis from the European dairy consumer today and tomorrow. Mr Laurent Damiens from the European Milk Forum will show how communication is key in bringing and sharing the good messages on milk and dairy.
The challenges that dairy faces at global and European level are under the spot light of the second session. Different aspects such as nutrition, sustainability and food security will be discussed by three speakers: Dr Philippe Ankers, from the FAO Animal Production & Health Division; Mr Jeremy Hill, IDF President; and Mrs Mella Frewen, Director-General of FoodDrinkEurope.
In the third session industry leaders will have a closer look at the benefits, opportunities and potential risks of free trade agreements for European dairy. This session will be introduced by Mr John Clarke, Director for international affairs in particular WTO at the European Commission. MEP Paolo De Castro (Italy) and Mr Jim Higgiston, minister-counsellor of the U.S. mission in Brussels, will exchange views on the TTIP (EU-US) discussions.
Alexander Anton, Secretary-General of EDA, looks forward to the interesting exchanges and discussions at next week’s Forum: ‘’Connect to the world of dairy’ is the basis of our job as a European dairy association - at our World Dairy Forum in Stresa we will connect with high-end speakers and leaders of the dairy industry. We are honoured that the Italian minister of agriculture, Mr Maurizio Martina, will open our conference and we are especially looking forward to the discussion on the TTIP agreement.”
