PotatoEurope 2014 with 220 exhibitors from 13 countries

The organizer DLG (Deutsche Landwirtschafts-Gesellschaft – German Agricultural Society) reports excellent stand bookings for the international open-air exhibition “PotatoEurope” being held at the Rittergut Bockerode estate in Springe-Mittelrode near Hanover (Germany) on 3 and 4 September 2014. 220 exhibitors from 13 countries will be presenting a unique information programme covering all aspects of the potato world.

All the leading suppliers from the fields of breeding, fertilizing, plant protection, machinery and equipment for production and processing as well as from the trade sector will be represented. “Stand bookings are around twelve percent up on the figures for the last event in 2010”, declared project manager Dr. Wilfried Wolf from the organizer, DLG. The high level of international participation in PotatoEurope 2014 is also encouraging. Nearly 100 exhibitors (around 45 percent) come from outside Germany, with the largest contingent hailing from the Netherlands (47). Other exhibitors come from Belgium, China, Denmark, Finland, France, the United Kingdom, Lithuania, Austria, Poland, Hungary and the USA. The outstanding exhibitor registration figures endorse the claim of this special event to be the international platform for the entire potato industry this year. PotatoEurope 2014, which is being held under the patronage of the German potato industry association Union der Deutschen Kartoffelwirtschaft (UNIKA), will signpost the way to modern potato production and processing.

Complete exhibition programme
The exhibitors come from the areas of breeding, fertilizing, plant protection, and machinery and equipment for production and processing, as well as from the trade sector. They will be providing a unique programme of information covering all aspects of the potato on a total exhibition area of 35 hectares. The potato professionals will be able to gather current and new information on producing high-grade products at first hand. They will also find important impulses for promoting the position of potatoes among consumers and developing new market potentials. Current varieties and refined fertilizing and plant protection strategies will be presented on demonstration plots. This will give farmers key recommendations for their future potato cultivation. On the campus site the programme will be rounded off by stands on the grass and in a large tent hall. In this area exhibitors will be presenting the complete spectrum of the exhibition programme, from breeding through production and processing right up to marketing. The potato industry, science and research facilities, agricultural organisations and associations will be represented there and provide information about varieties, cropping methods and machinery and equipment, as well as advice on growing, potato conditioning and storage, together with questions of management and marketing and services.

Machinery demonstrations will be a special highlight
The machinery demonstrations on the two days of the event promise to be a special highlight at PotatoEurope 2014. They will give visitors an overview found nowhere else in Europe of the operating modes of various systems and machines. This year the focus is on planting machines, trailed and self-propelled lifters and loading stations. Dr. Rolf Peters (from the Experimental Station Dethlingen) will be offering interested expert visitors a guided tour with commentary on both days from 10.00 h to approx. 11:30 h. The meeting place for these tours will be the DLG Stand (GA40) at the machinery demonstration site.

Information Centre “Crate Handling and Storage Logistics”
Technically innovative solutions for process management will be presented at an Information Centre established jointly with exhibitors at PotatoEurope. The questions addressed include accepting the produce, filling and storing the crates, logistics and warehouse management systems, as well as recovery from storage. There will be live demonstrations of these activities on both days of the exhibition.

“Getting to grips with marketing – Risk management in practice”
Speakers will be reporting on global trends in potato production, initial forecasts of the market development, as well as possibilities of risk management and securing revenues at a lecture and discussion event in the catering tent in the exhibition grounds starting at 16:00 h on Wednesday, 3 September 2014. Attendance is free of charge for visitors to PotatoEurope 2014. Prior registration is not necessary. There will be simultaneous interpreting of lectures and discussion contributions in German and English.
