The recent reform is also seeking to reinforce the importance that agriculture plays in the sustainable management of our natural resources, as well as supporting broader elements of the rural economy.
The reform has set a common framework for the period until 2020, but, given the diversity that we now see in 28 different Member States, there are also variations in how the CAP is used to support the specific situation in each country.
How, then, has the CAP concretely affected each Member State? What was the situation in the 2007-2013 period? And what is it going to do in the future to ensure competitiveness and sustainability of EU agriculture?
A new series of factsheets provides answers to these questions, together with examples of projects benefitting the development of our rural areas, key data on what the agricultural sector looks like in each Member State, and what its citizens make of it and the CAP.
In addition to the statistical factsheets, they reflect the current situation in a concise and comparable way, at the moment when Member States (and regions) are contemplating how to implement the new CAP for the period from now until 2020.
