Adama in Belgium, the new name for Makhteshim Agan

A new name – Adama, innovative packaging, a digital strategy and a new farmer centric approach were unveiled by Makhteshim Agan at a meeting with the leading distributors of agriculture products in Northern Europe. Addressing the meeting Han Rupert, General Manager of Adama Northern Europe, explained how these changes were further steps in the company’s transition to becoming a major global player and how the company will play its part in helping farmers meet the considerable challenge of feeding the world.

The meeting was told that the increase in population and the trend towards increased meat eating is going to require over 60 % more crop production by 2050. Adama, which has Chem China as a substantial shareholder and partner, believes that its farmer centric solutions, focused on providing straight forward simple and practical solutions to farmer’s needs, and its innovative products will help make a difference.

The delegates were shown how this “Simplicity” approach works. The new packaging which is being rolled out over the next few years will have a host of benefits including; being stackable, have better and extra handles for easy handling, anti glug features, no seal, windows in containers to provide at-a-glance information on levels of product, a unified easy to read new labeling system, embossments on cans to help prevent counterfeiting, be color coded for easy recognition of different product categories and will be green and recyclable. The digital platform which starts with the new website will help farmers to easily access authorative and up to date information through QR codes on the packaging, social media and apps. Adama is working with its distributors to simplify procedures between the distributor and the farmer as well as between the distributor and Adama itself.

Anders Harfstrand, CEO of Adama Europe commented “We are very excited to begin this next phase of our company’s development. Agriculture is going to be under increasing pressure to meet the global demand for food. We believe that our farmer centric focus is one that farmers (incl. potatoes, ...) across the world will really value. This is particularly true in Europe where farmers have even more complexity to cope with as legislators demand more and more environmental controls, maintenance of the rural landscape and an ever increasing burden of form filling and bureaucracy. Also in keeping with the company’s focus on simplicity we are restructuring our product line. The current range of product brands, which numbers in the hundreds, will be reduced to a number of umbrella product ranges.”

This meeting was the first of many launches as all the former Makhteshim subsidiaries across the world, many of whom trade under different names, become Adama. This transition process is expected to take around 18 months to complete.

In addition to the name change, Adama has a new corporate logo

Adama’s new logo, which was initially unveiled in January when the company announced its name change, is a stylized “A”, and echoes the three As in Adama.  It is also an arrow pointing upward—a simple, universal image of growth. Adama means “earth” in Hebrew,
