New Holland Tractor in Antwerp celebrates 50 years of Tractors with 'Fantastic Farmer Days'

Today the factory in Antwerp celebrates the fact that 50 years ago the production of tractors was started. In the beginning complete tractors left the factory, as the Ford 2000-7000 serie, the TW range and eventually the TLB’s. Since 1996 the plant concentrates on producing and assembling the technical heart of the tractors.

Every day more than a hundred drivelines are produced, that are completed in the sister plants in Basildon (UK) and Sankt Valentin (Austria) to become ready to use tractors.

After an academic session the invitees were guided onto the shop floor, where minister De Coninck addressed all employees. After the Ministers cordial congratulations on the occassion of the golden jubilee, she received from one of the employees a souvenir to this day.

Following the invitees were introduced to the demonstrated T6 and T7 New Holland tractors. A perfect occasion for the Minister and the Mayor to drive the new tractors and working the soil. One of the tractors was equipped with a RTK (Real Time Kinematic) system, that makes it possible to drive the tractors automatically at one cm accuracy.

Plant Manager Luc Thysen:”We as New Holland Tractor deserve to be proud at this anniversary. The effort and know-how of our people, the innovation in both products as in processes and the urge to become even better, have made this plant as what it is today. So at first it is a celebration for our fantastic team of over more than 1,000 employees. We are pleased that we could welcome minister Monica De Coninck and mayor Bart De Wever at this jubilee and they have participated in enjoying the enthusiasm of everybody present. Aparantly engineering is something that appeals to them very much, considering the many interesting questions we could answer.

During her visit minister De Coninck stated: “The power of a company like New Holland Tractor is in the collaboration. The collaboration between the management and all employees to deliver top quality. And the collaboration with the government and the social and economic partners.  Also the level of education of the employees, the quality of their work and their motivation make the difference. And of course a company needs a vision to deliver a top performance. If people work together, they can move mountains. If they pull in the same direction, they can reach the top. And that is what happens here.”

At his closing speech mayor De Wever of Antwerp expressed  the importance of New Hollands industrial activity as follows: “We do not consider it being obvious that companies like New Holland Tractor and its predecessors have been a solid employer for over more than 80 years in the harbour of Antwerp and that they keep investing and offer good and well payed jobs to thousand people from our city and region.”.

The factory in Antwerp was originally established in 1930 as a car assembly factory by Ford. In 1964 the car assembly moved to Genk and Antwerp became a tractor plant.
