Peter Kendall as new president of the world farmers organisation


Copa-Cogeca welcomed today the election of Peter Kendall from the UK as new President of the World Farmers Organisation for a two year term. He will replace Robert Carlson.

Speaking after the vote in Buenos Aires, Peter Kendall, a farmer and former President of the National Farmers Union of England and Wales said “Feeding the growing global population is one of the major challenges facing the world today. It is  vital that farmers are united and strong to find the best solutions to meet this demand”.
 
Welcoming the vote, Copa-Cogeca Secretary-General Pekka Pesonen said “I look forward to working closely with Peter kendall to ensure we have a viable agriculture sector to meet this growing demand. A strong EU agriculture sector is vital for the economy, for the environment, for quality food, for growth and jobs.Investment in the sector must be stepped up significantly, research and innovation encouraged. The food chain also needs to work better to enable farmers to get a better return from the market”.

Directors were also elected to for the different regions, including Mailan Rahmanbin (Asia) , Evelyn Nguleka (Africa), Brent Finlay (Oceanía), Luis Miguel Etchevehere (Latin America),  Ron Bonnet (North America)

The event united over 100 agricultural organisations from 80 countries all over the world.
