Copa-Cogeca welcomed today the “mini package”

Copa-Cogeca welcomed today the “mini package” agreed in Bali in the world trade talks, stressing its commitment to the multilateral trade process and welcoming the progress made after years of standstill.

A Copa-Cogeca delegation took part in the 9th Ministerial Conference of the World Trade Organisation held in Bali this week.

Copa-Cogeca Secretary-General Pekka Pesonen said “We welcome the significant breakthrough in the talks made today.  The Bali package covers trade facilitation, agriculture and a number of development issues and a clear work programme. Most importantly, it keeps the multilateral trade negotiations alive. Farmers and their agricultural cooperatives need fair, transparent and predictable rules of international trade. This is the best way to avoid possible trade disputes.”

Mr Pesonen continued “While we welcome the fact that the WTO addressed the challenge of food security it must also in future tackle the increasing impact of regulatory differences  on agricultural trade.”
