The scenario was that of the SPACE 2013, the annual international livestock trade fair held in Rennes, France. With more than 1300 exhibitors hosted this year, this is one of the most important animal production fairs held in Europe and it is well known internationally.
There FEFANA had the chance to meet with some of the key magazines of the feed sector to point out that the overall goal of our association over the years has been – and continues to be – to promote the role of SFIs.
Being safety a must and not for discussion, ours it is an adaptable industry aiming at meeting the expectations of not only the customers, but also of the society overall in which it operates. The example of the Specialty Feed Ingredients Sustainability Project1 – aiming at establishing the possible positive function of the use of these products on the environmental impact of livestock production – elucidates our commitment in this respect.
FEFANA aims at understanding and facilitating access to regulation and enforcement practices in different regions of the world. This is why we are engaged in the Convergence Project1. We believe this will facilitate trade across the world in the future, while meeting the highest standards of quality and safety of products.
We expect claims and labelling to be the hot topics for our industry in Europe in the short terms. FEFANA is already collaborating with other stakeholders and regulators to establish
the principles ensuring for the right flow of relevant information for SFIs’ labelling along the feed supply chain.
Innovation is a fundamental pillar of our industry, providing tailored products according to local differences and needs, meeting the market’s demand and also trying to bring economic benefits wherever possible. We will continue working in these directions to keep or bring new SFIs and their mixtures on the market.
