Altran Foundation for Innovation launches the 2013 Award in Belgium

The mission of the Foundation is to promote technological innovation for human benefit. In each country, the Foundation selects a specific theme and rewards the best innovative project. This year the Belgian theme will focus on technological Innovation for safe, sustainable & healthy food.

Over the past years, numerous issues and pressures have pushed food safety professionals to find new ways of managing the multitude of risks arising from globalisation. And today, it is difficult to have an effective and efficient food safety system without the use of technology. The food supply chain from farm to consumer is an increasingly complex one. It has thus never been more critical to find ways of guaranteeing a safe supply of healthy food to the consumer.
To address these big challenges inherent to securing the food industry, further efforts are needed to bring in technological innovations that serve safety, sustainability & health.

The Altran Foundation for Innovation will reward technology-based innovations designed to ensure food quality (contributing to health, pleasure and satisfaction, service and ease of use) and food safety (traceability, control, cold chain maintenance, labeling, information, process control ...). These innovations can address different aspects from the entire food chain, for example: sustainable sourcing, food processing, health and consumers, food quality, food safety, food traceability and waste.

The Altran Foundation for Innovation entrusts national juries the task of selecting a laureate from among the candidates. The jury is made up of experts selected according to the suitability of their skills for the theme chosen; specialists from research, politics, teaching, industry, or persons recognized for their position as a leader in innovation, etc.

Beyond awarding a traditional prize, the Foundation offers the laureate a reward that is innovative in itself: support for the project from a team of engineers from the Altran group; a global leader in innovative consulting. This technological support may cover all the steps and areas related to the project: development of the technologies, design, industrialization, intellectual property, project management, cost optimization, the search for partners, marketing, communication, etc. Altran's expertise in research and scientific innovation is a unique opportunity for the candidates. This enables them to give shape to their idea and transform their project into an industrial reality.
