Copa-Cogeca warns of catastrophic EU beef sector situation

Copa-Cogeca warned today of the catastrophic situation facing the EU beef sector.
Speaking in Brussels, Chairman of the EU beefmeat Working Party Piere Chevalier said: "The situation is very difficult in the sector due to poor weather conditions - late winter, heavy rains - in several member states which has made the provision of feed difficult. The availability of winter feed is very poor and stocks are almost exhausted. EU beef producers are being squeezed by high production costs, and low margins in a sector where farmers have one the lowest incomes".
