"Green Genetic Engineering” Theme Center at DLG Field Days


"In 2009, around 14 million farmers cultivated more than eleven plant species with a wide variety of genetically modified properties on land covering 134 million hectares in 25 countries. In addition, worldwide there are plants with more than 90 different genetically modified properties that are either at the research stage or at the point of being approved. While global development in green genetic engineering is hurtling ahead, Europe is facing difficulties in accepting this technology. Various surveys show that many consumers and farmers too view green genetic engineering sceptically because they have the feeling that they are not sufficiently informed about this complex thematic area.
