Machinery demonstrations at DLG Field Days

Precision fertilising with mineral fertiliser spreaders, boom stability and balance in crop protection sprayers, automated steering and headland management and stubble cultivation

With its unique range of information, the DLG Field Days Exhibition from 15 to 17 June 2010 at the manor Bockerode in Springe-Mittelrode near Hanover offers crop production professionals from Germany and neighboring countries important guidance on varieties and seeds, fertilizers and crop protection as well as issues of crop management. In addition, three days of machinery demonstrations represents a further attraction to the event.

At the Field Days, visitors can gain an excellent and practical overview of the various machines and systems being demonstrated live. This year, the areas of fertilisers, crop protection, automatic steering and stubble cultivation are key focus areas. All major manufacturers are represented. Competent commentators from various institutions and organizations will be explaining the products being demonstrated in German. In addition, technology consultants from the manufacturer will be on hand for an in-depth exchange of views and experiences as well as product-specific information.
The following demonstrations are planned:

Precision fertilising with mineral fertiliser spreaders (stand MC)

Larger working widths and the desire for higher working speeds on the one hand, with rising fertiliser prices, stricter environmental requirements and the associated need for precision farming methods on the other, call for constant further development of spreading machinery and equipment. In addition to a uniform spreading pattern on return passes and in boundary spreading, attention in developments of broadcasters and pneumatic spreaders is focusing increasingly on precision volume adjustment. That is why the mineral fertiliser spreaders registered for the Field Days will be demonstrated in a plant stand with different supply stages.

The various system solutions for edge and boundary spreading will also be shown in action. Among other features, it will be possible to see directly whether precision edge working is possible. Twice a day at 11 a.m. and 2.30 p.m. the fertiliser spreaders are being practically presented.

The following companies are taking part:
  •  AMAZONEN-WERKE, H. Dreyer GmbH & Co. KG, Hasbergen-Gaste
  • BOGBALLE A/S, Uldum (Dänemark)
  • Becker Landtechnik, Oberweser
  • Honermeier GmbH, Gnutz
  • Kverneland Group Soest GmbH, Soest
  • Maschinen- und Antriebstechnik GmbH & Co. KG, Güstrow
  • Rauch Landmaschinenfabrik GmbH, Sinzheim
Boom stability and balance in plant protection sprayers  (Stand MD)

Larger, faster, wider – coupled with reduced spreading rates per hectare. This describes developments in plant protection sprayers. At the same time users are demanding increasingly higher precision in application, right up to individual nozzle control, as well as efficient and environmentally friendly use of agents. There is a growing requirement for spraying work to be possible in the evening and night hours too. This makes further development of the sprayer boom even more vital. Against this background the DLG has built up a new obstacle track that will be shown in this arrangement for the first time at the DLG Field Days 2010. In a section with obstacles making extreme demands of boom stability and balance, the suspension and shock-absorbing properties of the sprayer boom and sprayer chassis will have to show what they are worth.

The spacer sensors for height guidance of the boom remain inactive in this segment of the demonstration track. The subsequent field passage then makes quite different requirements. Here every manufacturer can show what his sensor technology can do in conjunction with boom guidance and management. The working speed during the passages over the obstacles will be displayed for the visitors.  The machines are demonstrated daily at 11.30 a.m. and 2 p.m.   The following companies are taking part.
  • Agrifac Machinery B.V., Steenwijk (Niederlande)
  • AMAZONEN-WERKE, H. Dreyer GmbH & Co. KG, Hasbergen-Gaste
  • AGCO Deutschland Challenger, Marktoberdorf

  • TECNOMA TECHNOLOGIES SAS, Epernay (Frankreich)
  • Vogel & Noot Landmaschinen GmbH & Co. KG, Wartberg/Mürztal (Österreich)
Automated steering and headland management (stand MB)   This technology brings tangible advantages that can be evaluated directly in economic terms. The many plus points of the various systems become apparent depending on the configuration level and precision. They range from simple display of the ideal driving track right through to distinctly enhanced productivity and quality of the work performed, even during evening and night-time hours. Alongside large farms, for which this technology is one of the “must haves” of modern tractor equipment, farms with less land available are now also beginning to enjoy these advantages that can “spur on” field work even or perhaps specifically in smaller structured regions. Machine demonstration take place daily from 10.30 to 11.00 a.m. and from 3  to 3.30 p.m. in the demonstration area which is clearly marked. The following companies are taking part:
  • AGCO GmbH – Fendt, Marktoberdorf
  • AGCO Vertrieb Massey Ferguson, Marktoberdorf
  • AGCO Valtra Vertriebs GmbH, Marktoberdorf
  • Claas Vertriebsgesellschaft mbH, Harsewinkel

  • KRESS & Co. GmbH, Vaihingen
  • Müller-Elektronik GmbH & Co. KG, Salzkotten
  • Reichhardt GmbH Steuerungstechnik, Hungen
  • TeeJet Technologies GmbH, Ludwigsburg
  • Topcon Positioning Systems Inc., Livermore (USA)
 Stubble cultivation (stand MA)
Simpler cultivator forms, classic disc harrows and the known winged share cultivators are being increasingly crowded out. Multi-beam cultivators are now making their way onto the fields in larger numbers, partly equipped with a number of different tool bays. Generally, these items of equipment can be converted with special shares and coulters for shallow stubble working or deeper basic tillage. Some manufacturers offer quick-change systems for fast and easy changing of shares and coulters. However, during the season professional farmers want equipment that only needs converting as little as possible.

For example, when it comes to stubble working after wheat, other crops are often ready for the second, deeper working operation at the same time. Ever more farmers are therefore using an additional “special instrument” for mainly shallow working of the stubble. Above all short disc harrows or various shallow cultivator forms have been received very well by the farming community. The exciting question concerning matching implement equipment for longer or also shorter stubble work is a key topic in the current debate here.

On individual farms, in cross-farm operation and among contractors, the question that must first be clarified is whether the stubble working is to be carried out by a special drilling machine – such as e.g. the short-disc harrow – or with universally usable cultivators. Both scenarios embrace a number of questions and arguments. Daily demonstrations at 10 a.m and 3.30 p.m. take place. The following companies are taking part:
  • AMAZONEN-WERKE, H. Dreyer GmbH & Co. KG, Hasbergen-Gaste
  • Auf der Landwehr GmbH, Rietberg
  • Becker Landtechnik, Oberweser
  • Güttler GmbH, Kirchheim-Teck
  • HORSCH Maschinen GmbH, Schwandorf
