EESC sides with green trade and informative animal welfare labelling


The Economic and Social Committee's May Plenary kicked off with an opinion put straight to vote, namely that of animal welfare labelling. This opinion, from the rapporteur Mr. Leif Erland Nielsen (Group Various Interests, Denmark) received an overwhelming majority and follows up on previous activities of the EESC in this field, which in 2007 had culminated in a set of recommendations to the Commission, as well as a major conference.
