WHO confirms Indonesian man died from bird flu

A 30-year-old Indonesian man who died April 26 has been confirmed as having succumbed to the dangerous H5N1 strain of bird flu by a World Health Organization-affiliated laboratory in Hong Kong, an Indonesian Health Ministry official said Monday.

Ahmad Priyatna of the ministry's bird flu information center said it is suspected the man from West Jakarta had been in contact with sick fowl, the common mode of transmission of the virus to humans.
