Vietnam conducts large scale anti-bird flu rehearsal

Vietnam on Sunday implemented a large-scale rehearsal on combating potential bird flu outbreaks among people in southern Can Tho city, Vietnam News Agency reported.

In a mock situation, in which bird flu virus strain H5N1 spread from humans to humans, resulting in 7 cases of infections in a residential area, over 200 people from health, police, army and militia forces in the city tried to quickly stamp out the outbreaks at the source, and treat bird flu patients. The city's Health Department video taped the rehearsal for future references in hospitals at different levels.

Earlier, similar rehearsals were conducted in Hanoi capital, central Thua Thien Hue and southern Ho Chi Minh City.

The Vietnamese Health Ministry said on Friday no new human cases of bird flu infection have been spotted in the country in the last more than five months. It has confirmed 93 cases, including 42 fatalities, in 32 cities and provinces since December 2003.
