Malt Whisky Festival

This year the International Malt Whisky Festival is being staged in Brussels. Whisky lovers have three days in which to sample more than 700 different whiskies.

Visitors to the festival will get the opportunity to try Irish and Scottish whiskies, but also brands that have been distilled in more unusual climes.

Whiskies from India, Sweden and even Japan are among those on offer.

The organisers hope that visitors will sample the whiskies in moderation, but with so many different types available the temptation will be great.

An entrance ticket costs 35 euros and includes 10 drams. This is the currency used at the festival. A dram of whisky will set you back at least one dram.

Free samples will also be available. Some whiskey tastings will be supervised by experts who have come all the way from Scotland especially to attend the festival.

But it's not all booze!

There will be displays of dancing and music performed by members of the renowned Flemish Caledonian Society.

Finger food should be available too to allow you to discover the delights of the Celtic cuisine.

Ways of combining cheese, chocolate, smoked salmon and whisky will all be explored.

The whiskies displayed at the festival can all be bought in larger and smaller quantities.
