Wine is an agricultural product which is defined by its final result and processing method so that it differs from other agricultural products. Therefore, COPA and COGECA consider that the new CMO for wine must continue to cover essential aspects such as product definition, a list of authorised wine-making practices, labelling and product monitoring.
In addition, COPA and COGECA request that the future CMO contains two types of measures financed by the European Union, i.e. Community measures applying throughout the EU on the one hand, and subsidiary measures in accordance with conditions prevailing in each Member State or production region on the other. These measures would make it possible to take account of the diversity of wine growing in Europe while maintaining a Community framework.
COPA and COGECA stress that the budget for this CMO must cover the requirements of these two distinct series of measures.
Moreover, the organisations propose a higher commitment of the sector so as to achieve better balance between supply and demand.
