Building a supermarket with an area of more than 6,000 square meters will be strictly limited within the Second Ring Road, the heart of the city, said Beijing Municipal Bureau of Commerce, together with two other authorities, in this year's list of guidelines for the development of retail and wholesale industries in Beijing.
New construction of large commercial facilities with an area of more than 10,000 square meters will be restricted within the Third Ring Road, while the construction of such facilities with an area larger than 50,000 square meters will be restricted within the Fifth Ring Road, it said.
Electrical, digital and telecommunications products in the Zhongguancun area, as well as those of automobile fittings and home decoration materials will also be strictly restricted, the report said.
The list of guidelines emphasize policies to develop key industries, construction projects and advanced technologies that conform to the capital city's demand in economic development and its responsibility to hold the 2008 Beijing Olympics, while restricting commercial projects that are not suitable for Beijing's development.
