Vietnam: fruit exports to China surge after Tet holiday
Mountainous northern Lao Cai province, in the first week after the Tet holiday (Jan. 30 - Feb. 3), saw the export of 4.3 million USD worth of fruits from southern Viet Nam to the southwest of China, a year-on-year increase of 30 percent.

The exports included fresh longan, dragon fruit and cashew nuts which originated from southern Dong Nai, Vinh Long and An Giang provinces. In January alone, the export-import turnover through the province reached 11.5 million USD, with exports making up 7.4 million USD. The province predicts exports worth 457 million USD in 2006, a rise of 27 million USD over 2005
