Two new Protected Geographical Indications from Portugal

The Commission has approved the addition of two new products from Portugal to the register of Protected Geographical Indications (PGIs).

These are ‘Chouriça de Carne de Melgaço', a smoked and cold-cured horseshoe-shaped sausage and ‘Presunto de Melgaço’, a smoked ham, the shape of which is obtained using a long and elongated cut. The geographical area for the production of these two products covers all parishes of the Municipality of Melgaço in Portugal. These two denominations will be added to the list of over 1,200 products already protected. More information: webpages on quality products and DOOR database of protected products.
